LAKEWOOD, NJ—Lake County got home runs from Jared Goedert and Nick Weglarz in a 12-9 win over the BlueClaws on Friday night. There were 29 hits in the game, including 16 from Lakewood, who got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 9th but fell just short for the 2nd day in a row.
Lake County scored 4 in the 2nd inning capped by Goedert’s 16th home run of the season, which leads the league. It came off of BlueClaws starter Jarrod Freeman (2-2), who allowed 7 runs on 7 hits in 3.2 IP.
The BlueClaws chopped the lead in half with 2 in the 2nd including a double-steal for Quintin Berry and Julian Williams in which Williams stole home.
The Captains, who never trailed in the game, led 7-3 going to the bottom of the 6th when Carl Henry Jr. capped a 3-run inning with a 2-run home run (7).
With a 1-run lead, the BlueClaws were as close as they had been since the 2nd inning but Kevin Salmon allowed a long home run to right-center for Nick Weglarz (7) to make it 9-6.
Goedert added a 2-run double in a 3-run 9th to finish with 3 hits and 6 RBIs; he now has 47 which also leads the South Atlantic League pending the results of Friday night’s games.
